Netflix Animation brought their a-game to Annecy, the preeminent animation festival. They previewed a bevy of new art and teasers for upcoming series and films – including Bradd Bird’s much awaited Ray Gunn and a very early look at Charlie vs the Chocolate Factory starring Taika Waititi . We also had the opportunity to pre-preview the lineup at a special event before the festival kicked off.
Ghosbusters: Night Shift
You might be afraid of those ghosts. Taking place in the era between Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters: Afterlife, this series will follow a band of young busters (in training) around New York City. Giving dirty grimy vibes, show runners Ben Hibon and Elliott Kalan promised “it will be scary.” Based on the clips we saw we can confirm.
Keep an eye out in 2027.

Steps
We were treated to a work in progress sequence from this Cinderella’s story told from the POV of the “evil” step-sisters. In it we witnessed Cinderella (voiced by Amana Seyfried) and her step-sister Margot (Stephanie Hsu) on the run from a psychotic henchman of the royals. It was giving Terminator chase. While it’s a story we’ve seen over and over the cultural stylings of Steps make it one to keep an eye on.
Streaming on Netflix on November 20, 2026.

The One Piece
A new anime (of the yet to be finished existing animation and manga?) is coming to Netflix. Monkey D. Luffy returns in this newly stylized beloved series that will no doubt provide comfort enjoyment for existing fans and an entry point for newcomers.
Streaming on Netflix on February 2027.

In Waves
A devastating storm of emotions that made it’s own waves at Cannes. In Waves follows first loves, lifelong passions, and the depths of grief. We had the opportunity to screen the film and all we can say is get your tissues ready.
Streaming on Netflix on December 11, 2026.

Alley Cats
Ricky Gervais brings his acerbic stylings to the medium of animation in Alley Cats. He funnels his biting commentary into a orange ball of fluff (think an even more nihilistic and R rated Garfield).
The series begins streaming on Netflix on August 7, 2026.

Ray Gunn
Last but not least is Brad Bird’s seventh feature: Ray Gunn. It’s a concept he’s been working on even prior to The Iron Giant. Featuring the last human private detective in a world where aliens abound. Think Maltese Falcon meets Buck Rodgers. We were treated to a lively clip of Ray and his alien compatriot having to break anenter for some good ol’ fashioned information gathering.

Starring Sam Rockwell, Scarlett Johansson and Tom Waits.
Streaming on Netflix on December 18, 2026.
The Talent at Annecy
Suffice to say we’re amped on what Netflix Animation announced at Annecy.
