This week brings two politically themed films and one Oscar grab with “The Hate U Give” “The Oath” and “Beautiful Boy.”
“The Hate U Give” is based on the New York Times Bestseller by the same name. It centers around Starr Carter who witnesses the police shooting of one of her childhood friends. It stars Amandla Stenberg, KJ Apa, Algee Smith, Issa Rae, Regina Hall, Anthony Mackie, Russell Hornsby, and Sabrina Carpenter.

Slightly more comical but definitely still political fare is “The Oath” which was written by, directed by, and stars Ike Barinholtz. It’s pretty much…. probably a few years from now. It also stars Tiffany Haddish, John Cho, Billy Magnussen, Carrie Brownstein, and Meredith Hagner.
Finally there’s the awards grab/memoir based “Beautiful Boy” starring Timothee Chalamet, Steve Carell, Amy Ryan, and Maura Tierney.
