This week brings an event 10 years and 18 films in the making, “Avengers: Infinity War”! (spoiler free of course, which is why it’s a rather short review) and I finally see Wes Anderson’s “Isle of Dogs.” Marvel fans rejoice, “Avengers: Infinity War” is finally here. It’s a great ride if you’re a Marvel fan. If you’ve never seen a Marvel movie, for the love of Loki please don’t start here! It stars…. everyone in Hollywood. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Don Cheadle, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Tom Hiddleston, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, a California Raisin, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Idris Elba, Danai Gurira, Peter Dinklage, Benedict Wong, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, Benecio Del Toro, Josh Brolin, and Chris Pratt (and the kitchen sink).
I also finally saw Wes Anderson’s latest stop motion film, “Isle of Dogs” – while the concerns about Orientalism were valid, my biggest complaint about the film was the arbitrary ways it got in the way of progressing the story. It features the voice talent of Bryan Cranston, Koyu Rankin, Edward Norton, Bob Balaban, Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum, Greta Gerwig, Frances McDormand, Scarlett Johansson, Harvey Keitel, F. Murray Abraham, Yoko Ono, Ken Watanabe, Tilda Swinton, Live Schreiber, and Courtney B. Vance…. So basically a voice ensemble straight outta Marvel.
