The first review of the new year brings some award hopefuls. There’s “The Post” from Steven Spielberg and “I, Tonya” starring Margot Robbie.
“The Post” boasts an impressive pedigree, with Spielberg directing, Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Sarah Paulson, Bob Odenkirk, Michael Stuhlbarg, Alison Brie, Bruce Greenwood and David Cross starring. However it feels like it’s a good movie, but could have been great. It chronicles the publishing of the Pentagon Papers by the Washington Post.
Meanwhile, “I, Tonya” is the story of infamous skater Tonya Harding. The story focuses less on the Harding/Kerrigan attack and more the events that shaped Tonya into who she is. Margot Robbie is great as Harding, Allison Janney is terrifying as her mother, and Sebastian Stan makes a great Jeff Gillooly.
