When money and franchising is the only motivation behind making a film, there’s only so far it can go. With a cast of mega-stars including Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, John Goodman, Samuel L Jackson, Tian Jing, Toby Kebbell, Jason Mitchell, Corey Hawkins, and John C. Reilly, you have to ask what was it about this film (aside from the paycheck) that convinced them all to be in it?
Kong is nothing more and nothing less than it appears to be. It’s a MILDLY different take on the King Kong origin story. However it’s not drastically different enough from the original 1933 one, or even the 2005 Peter Jackson iteration.
I love a good monster movie just as much as the next person, but at this point I’m utterly exhausted of the re-make/re-imaginings that really aren’t doing anything dramatically different than the first.
