Downsizing, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

Closing out the year with two of the larger movies to come out over the holiday weekend, “Downsizing” and “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.”

“Downsizing” is a great concept, with terrible execution. After the misfires of “The Great Wall” “Suburbicon” and “Downsizing” I’m officially boycotting Matt Damon films. It’s also a miss for Alexander Payne, who aside from a few foul steps (I’m looking at you “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry”) tends to be a decent writer.

“Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” is another probably needless remake, but at least it was more or less enjoyable. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is charming as always, Kevin Hart is… tolerable. Jack Black and Karen Gillan have good girlfriend chemistry, and Nick Jonas is there for the youths.
