Welcome director Chris Appelhans for the new animated film Wish Dragon. We chat about the challenges of making a film under severe constraints, hilarious language misadventures in China, and the great Jackie Chan.

In Sony Pictures Animation’s Wish Dragon, Din, a working-class college student with big dreams but small means, and Long, a cynical but all-powerful dragon capable of granting wishes, set off on a hilarious adventure through modern day Shanghai in pursuit of Din’s long-lost childhood friend, Lina. Their journey forces them to answer some of life’s biggest questions – because when you can wish for anything, you have to decide what really matters.

Chris Appelhans is the writer and director of Sony Pictures Animation’s feature film “Wish Dragon.” Prior to joining Sony Pictures Animation, Appelhans wrote and developed several original projects with major studios including Disney, Laika and Paramount.Appelhans began his career as a concept artist on animated hits such as “The Princess and the Frog,” “The Fantastic Mr. Fox,” and “Monster House,” before moving into production design on the stop-motion feature “Coraline,” which earned him an Annie Award nomination for his work on the film.
